WWF/E Vengeance - July 2002 Predictions
(SD) Cruiserweight Championship
Jamie Noble (c) vs. Billy Kidman (put your clothes back on)
I'm wondering what style of Hanes Kidman will be modeling this Sunday. The glitter drawers? The red panties? Anyhow, I've grown to like Jamie Noble and his gimmick and Nidia's a great second for him even though she does nothing for me. And Kidman is Kidman - clothes or not. Hopefully, they'll give these two enough time. Noble has been an OK CruiserChamp even though Hurricane jobbed the belt away too early - so I think he'll keep it tonight since well... he's more or less keeping it warm for Rey Misterio Jr. IMO. Noble retains. Highly doubt it'll be a clean win, though.
Winner: Jamie Noble retains the Cruiserweight Championship.
(RAW) No Disqualification, No Count-out
BOOKER T vs. Big Show
Finally, the BOOK has come back to PPV!
OK, this was supposed to be Booker vs. Nash but we all know what happened with that so we get something just as good. The Big Show is just a god-awful heel (and always has been in his WWF/E stint) but there isn't much else for him to do. Anyhow, the NO-DQ, No Count-Out stip always favors the heel so Show's losing here. Not so much for that reason - it's because Booker has to WIN. FACT: Booker has only ONE WWF PPV victory and that was at Invasion when he beat Angle. He's in the midst of a (well-deserved) monster face push and beating the Big Show will most certainly add more fuel to the fire. In addition, Booker hasn't been winning much lately so he needs the win. Booker's winning this one - absolutely no reason for him to lose. Now can you dig that....
... SUCKAAAA?! :)
Winner: BOOKER T
(RAW) Tag Team Table Match
Buh-Buh Ray & Spike Dudley vs. Chris Benoit/Eddie Guerrero
I kinda like Spike and I damn sure like Buh-Buh Ray (he's very underrated, IMO) but it's a shame they couldn't find something else for Benoit and Guerrero to do. Anyhow, this got started at KOTR when Buh-Buh cost Eddie the match against Flair so we have this. Spike will bump, Buh-Buh will oversell and yell at people, Benoit will kill people and Eddie will fly. But this is a table match, the Dudleys' specialty. So of course, they're losing. Not so much as the fact as it's Benoit's in-ring comeback after 13 months so I'd have Benoit take it here. maybe a flying headbutt on Buh-Buh through the table ends it here.
Winner: Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero.
(SD) Tag Team Championship
The REAL North Americans (c) vs. The Canadian Horsemen
Before I give my predictions, I want to go on record and say that turning Edge heel here or anytime in the near future would be one of the dumbest, most illogical turns EVER. I'm not being facetious either. It really would, in my opinion. It would put many of the Big Show's or Lex Luger's heel/face turns to shame. Let's turn Edge heel b/c he's CANADIAN and his childhood hero is AMERICAN!!! COME ON. It's things like this that ruined Eddie G's "lWo" angle in WCW. Anyhow, it's obvious how this match will go. Edge will be in for most of the match to be beaten up while Hogan stays on the apron only coming in to pop the crowd and to hit his signature spots and what not. Putting Hogan in tag matches was brilliant since it hides his age and suckiness well. Sort of like how the AGD masks perennial tag wrestler Billy Gunn's sucktitude (no pun intended).
Anyhow, as long as Hogan stays out long enough for Edge, Christian and Storm to do their thing, this match will be awesome. I see Test running in to run interference - but he'll fail. (Sorry, Brew) I then see Chris Jericho running in to run intereference - but he'll succeed to set up the Edge-Jericho match at SD. We might even see Jericho officially join the Canadians here, who knows? Also, since Edge and Hogan are what I call a "superteam" (two big singles stars as tag champs - ex - Austin/Michaels; Rock & Sock; etc.) and superteams are usually either transitional champs or fluke champs, it's a good bet that Christian (like Edge) will be getting his 8th Tag Title Reign here. I wonder if Stoneface will put little Canadian Decal Stickers on the Tag Titles....
Winner: Christian (8) and Lance Storm (1) win the Tag Team Championship.
(RAW) Intercontinental Championship
Rob Van Dam (c) vs. "The Next Big King" Brock Lesnar
OK - many of you know that I DO NOT like the fact that there's a huge possibility that Brock Lesnar (who generates a mild at best reaction from the crowd) will be Intercontinental and Unified World Champon by Summerslam's end one single bit - but that's my petty bitching. Anyhow, I'm hoping this match is like their match on Raw (sans ending) and not the stuff from KOTR. This match should be rather good and Heyman will be doing what he does best... SCREAM. When RVD is ON, he can be awesome. He just needs to know how to throw a punch. Anyhow, as much as it sickens me to see yet another lameduck RVD IC Title reign (I really thought he would be the man to bring the IC Title back to respectability like Benoit and Jericho did) but I'll be shocked if Brock doesn't take the IC Title since he seems to be getting the Goldberg Push. I still think Brock is getting way too much way too soon but we'll see what happens. New IC Champ. So where does this leave RVD now???
Winner: Brock Lesnar wins the Intercontinental Championship.
Unified World Championship
Undertaker (c) vs. The Rock vs. Kurt Angle (and his ugly singlet)
I really wish this was a Triple-Threat Elimination Match since those are cooler but hey. UT has problems with Rock for running in at KOTR. Angle is there b/c he made UT tap and he's just so damned awesome. The longer UT stays out - the better this match will be as Angle could carry bellybutton lint to a great match at the moment. Sadly, Heel Austin and Jericho's stability to the World Title has been completely shattered since WM18 and I see yet another title change here so UT is losing here. The signs point directly to Angle winning here (and I sure wouldn't complain if he did) - but he was put over big on SD last week and since generating higher interest in the product is a priority - I'd only assume they'd put the belt on the Rock - even though he'll likely be a transition champ (AGAIN). If for no other reason than that, it seems that heels will own this PPV so may as well send the crowd home happy, right? It's hard to pick between the Rock and Angle since it seems both won't be around for the long haul (which is a DAMN shame) but I'll take Rock since there seems to be too many heels going over at the show. Sadly the title changes for the 4th PPV out of the last 5.
Winner: The Rock wins the Unified World Championship (and becomes a record 7-time WWF/E World Champion).
Will Triple H join RAW or SmackDown!?
I couldn't care less to be honest. I'm just hoping it's something to make him more interesting that doesn't require him to turn heel. I've had more than my fill of heel HHH running rampant over the WWF/E, personally.
Only 6 matches and 1 promo. Hm. Either the matches will be long (which is a good thing) or they'll be doing some last minute stuff.
The Milk Carton (who's missing):
- Chris Jericho: He might have a match with John Cena but I don't see it listed.
- European Champion Jeff Hardy: I don't understand this at all. Why is he not on this show? I would've at least expected a Hardy-Regal rematch or something.
Well, there you go. Vengeance looks pretty bland and mediocre but it's an "In Your House PPV" so what's the difference? Not much else to say. I'll get the OnDemand webcast on Monday so I can watch.
