WWF/E King of the Ring 2002 Predictions
OK - now I'll make my predictions:
Cruiserweight Championship: The Hurricane(c) vs. Jamie (K)Noble
From Jung Dragon to "Knoble and Karagias" to Trailer Trash. While Helms goes from "boy band" to superhero AND he was the European Champ (though that doesn't say much). Anyhow, I wasn't too pleased when RVD just won his IC Title only to lose it to a returning Eddie Guerrero b/c it makes the IC belt (and RVD in a sense) look a little weak. The difference here is that no one really knows who Jamie (K)Noble is - so I don't think Hurricane having just a one month reign who will do much good to get the CruiserTitle over - so let's leave it on him. Then again, that's what they did with Christian when he debuted so you never know.
And I think Nidia kind of repulsive even before the White Trash Whore gimmick she's got.
Winner: The Hurricane hurri-retains the Cruiserweight Championship.
Women's Championship: Trish Stratus vs. Molly Holly
I miss Jazz. I think we lost all hope since Lawler will do his usual ogling of Trish's body and yapping about Molly's ass. King's a known dirty old man and if this match is good (which I expect it to be) his commentary is really gonna ruin it for the home viewers. I'd love to see Molly take this one but I'll stick with Trish since I want her to have a LONG reign as champ. Molly will pick it up eventually but I don't think it'll be at this show.
Winner: Trish Stratus retains the Women's Championship.
Ric Flair vs. Eddie Guerrero
And here's the result of Austin's departure. Not that I mind this match though. I'm not sure but I think the last time these two met was in WCW and Eddie was the US Champ. Despite Flair being 54 years old - he's proven he can still go and Eddie Guerrero - enough said - so you know this match is gonna be good as long as Flair can keep up with Eddie. Chris Benoit will interfere somehow, someway and cost Flair the match. Thankfully, he should be coming off the shelf any day know. I just wish it was on SD but it looks now more than ever he'll wind up on RAW. Hate to bet against Flair but I don't see him winning this one unless he gets interference from AA or something.
Winner: Eddie Guerrero.
Ol' Ketchup and Mustard vs. Kurt Angle (w/ [I assume] his ugly "A" singlet)
Well, it IS ugly.
Anyhow, Angle's winning. There's no doubt about it. But this will be the ULTIMATE test for Kurt Angle: can he get a good match out of Hogan? Well, the crowd response won't be a problem since this is HULK HOGAN and Angle "sucks". I guess we'll see the Rick Steiner headgear and wig removed again. Which I wouldn't mind since Kurt looks pretty damn cool with a baldie. Either way - like I said before - Angle's winning. Won't be by submission though.
Winner: Kurt Angle
The 2002 King of the Ring Tournament
I already showed my conspiracy theory that would wind up with Chris Jericho winning the whole thing and becoming the leader of the "Canadian Horsemen" in an earlier posting in this thread - but I'll disregard that as I don't normally include "schwerves" in my predictions.
Chris Jericho (the King of the World) vs. Rob Van Dam (WWF/E Intercontinental Champion)
Here is your most likely candidate for match of the night. Normally I'd say Jericho takes this one since RVD has beaten Jericho numerous times - including once when Jericho was the World Champ. However, among the four competitors, RVD is the only face so gotta go with Points-To-Self. I'd expect a surprise appearance by Edge to cost Jericho this match - but I'm not holding my breath for it.
Winner: Rob Van Dam
Test vs. Brock (SMASH) Lesnar
Buck-toothed Canadian vs. Neo-Nazi Computer Geek. What a pairing.
Anyhow - this is a heel vs. heel match so I'm not expect much crowd heat here. This will be your customary power match - though I'm begging Brock to bust out the Shooting Star Press. Sorry, Brew, unless my Canadain Horsemen theory is right, Test is getting beat here.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
FINALS: For a shot at the Unified World Title at Summerslam
Rob Van Dam vs. Brock Lesnar
It seems that they teased a feud between these two so it would make sense to pair them off in the end. This one could go either way - but since there's a World Title Shot on the line here - I'd give it to the guy the fans respond to MORE - and of course that would be RVD. The WWF/E is really LACKING in top level babyfaces so I think RVD needs to win this tourney - that is unless the Canadian Conspiracy takes place. I'm certain Brock will take the IC Title from RVD before Summerslam, though. RVD is your King though, as much as I like him, this final should have been Booker T vs. Chris Jericho.
Winner and 2002 King of the Ring: Rob Van Dam
Unified World Championship
The Undertaker (c) vs. Hunter Hearst-Helmsley
Anyhow, the World Title changed hands at WM18. And Backlash. And Judgement Day. I do believe HHH has never beaten UT. I'd keep the strap on UT so he can job it to Van Dam at Summerslam. :-D For some reason, I see a Hardy run-in. And I most certainly see a McMahon run-in. UT will still be and SHOULD still be the Unified World Champion when all is said and done and HHH will STILL have not beaten UT.
Winner: The Undertaker retains the Unified World Championship.
THE MILK CARTON (who's missing)
* AGD and the Tag Team Titles - what a shock. All the Tag Teams are on Raw and they're on SD. Tag Titles should be on both shows.
* William Regal and the European Title - forgot he was the champ, didn't you?
* nWo - though I'm sure they'll be doing something.
* Booker T - he'll probably be doing more comedy with Goldust. Not that I complain but he should be in SOME match.
* Edge - but I have a feeling he'll show up.
Well - on paper - this show doesn't look TOO bad - but I'm keeping my expectations low. RVD-Jericho and Eddie-Flair will likely be the top matches, IMO.
Recap: Hurricane, Trish, Eddie, Angle, RVD d. Jericho, Brock d. Test, RVD d. Brock, UT.
You know - I NEVER get what I want - but hopefully after Summerslam is done - we'll be seeing THIS at the end of the show:
OK. I'm done.
