WWF/E SmackDown! - May 16, 2002

Opening segment.
- Your standard stuff especially with HHH who has the tendency to drone on about nothing. And what's this? Edge associating with HHH? I guess they're not gonna give up on him after all. Edge is being a smark again - mentioning how two babyfaces aren't supposed to have issues. If this leads into a match between these two, I'll have no complaints. Angle clipping a lock of Edge's hair.... interesting...

I'm so sick of these "Vince McMahon boinks Diva" segments. Enough already.

Lance Storm/Hardocre Holly v. Val Venis/Randy Orton:
- Why is Randy doing Perry Saturn's pose with the locked hands over his head?
- I REFUSE to refer to Val Venis as the Big Valbowski. He needs to dump those red/black trunks also. Yuck.
- Anyhow, this was OK for what it was. Stonefaced jobbed to Randy Orton. I'll be damned. And Randy CHEATS TO WIN~! Orton's still green as hell but damn, does he have a sweet-looking cross body block.

- recap of UT crowbarring Hogan. Whatever....

-Maven hitting on Torrie Wilson.... hmmm, jury's still out.
-D-Von preaching running down Maven for his "sinful, impure, lustful" thoughts. HA!
-Deacon Bautista, Leviathan, whatever. By any other name - he's still scary looking.

Hurricane/Funaki segment.
- I'm thinking this note passer is Rey Misterio Jr. considering what would happen later. I don't care what his detractors say - the Hurricane is damn hilarious. Gregory Helms better thank his lucky stars he's such a big comic book fan.
- Funaki: "What's wrong with you? I'm busy." CLASSIC.

Chris Jericho interview.
Something hit me during this. Notice how Jericho was all intense and dead serious and even somewhat intimidating here? Why didn't he give an interview like this during his reign as World Champion? The REAL Chris Jericho? Heh - the look on Mark Loyd's face looked as if he lost control of his bodily functions there.

D-Von v. Maven.
- Pretty blah but watchable. I still can't remember the correct name for that Curtain Call/inverted DDT thing D-Von does. Cole says it's called "The Saving Grace" ... whatever.
- Stupid Cole Quote #1: "There should be another commandment - thou shalt not hit below the belt."

- That eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-ware midget got a chance to shill on the show. Good for him. Now go away. Shoo.

Bikini Contest
- Didn't really care except for the fact that both Torrie Wilson AND Stacy Keibler are noticeably taller than Tazz. Ouch.
- Nice to see Trish - though she should be feuding with MOLLY not Stacy. Only reason that match was made was to put the focus on the Dudleys with Buh-Buh Ray and D-Von being in opposing corners.

Rikishi v. Rico.
Just there. Rico ain't bad in the ring. I know he's the manager but he should wrestle more often. And I still think the AGD should be on both shows - maybe Vince wouldn't be pulling out the random tag team generator with Rikishi and ??????.
Stupid Cole Quote #2: "Rico tried a sunset flip but Rikishi turned him into a pancake." Ha. Shut up, Cole.

HHH interview.
More association with Edge. I don't know but it seems like these two are having a match in the near future. The KOTR tourney perhaps?
HHH to Edge: "go win some world titles THEN you can talk to me." FUNNY.
Edge to HHH: "I'll just be like you and bang Steph to get them." FUNNIER.

Tajiri v. Kidman v. Hurricane.
- Neat match but I prefer Triple Threat ELIMINATION matches. Nice to see Helms have gold again. Hurricane coming in to separate Kidman and Tajiri and give them "thumbs-up"s = GREAT.
- I never thought I'd see the day when a Cruiserweight Match ended with a CHOKESLAM. I hope that's not Hurricane's finisher, though. I could stand to see him dust off the Vertebreaker every now and then.
- That spot with Kidman bulldogging Tajiri while run off the ropes AND Hurricane looked pretty sweet. It's a shame his Shooting Star Press looked like it COMPLETELY missed Tajiri.

Photoshop Balding both Angle AND Edge in their JD promo picture = HILARIOUS. Though I don't think it's the best thing to do as it sort of ruins the mystique and curiosity of what either will look like w/o hair. Then again, Kurt's balding anyway so whatever.

Hogan/Vince segment.
- My God. Those Montreal folks seemed to be going cheering for Hogan for like 10 minutes before he said a word. In show time, it was 5 minutes but I'm sure they were cheering and chanting for him MUCH longer. I'm a little disturbed by the fact that a lot of them were doing the "We're not worthy" bow thing to him also.
- Vince comes out. Crowd: "You screwed Bret!" Guess it was too loud for the editing team to knock out.
- Wanted: A BIGGER Unified World Title Belt. And drop that "undisputed" stuff already.

HHH/Edge v. Kurt Angle/Chris Jericho ("Can-Am Connection"???)
- I was hoping and praying that HHH and Edge would come to blows here. Oh, well. Nice little match. Angle's chairshot at the end was REALLY sick.
- Somethig interesting. I noticed how it was HHH/Jericho that left through the crowd and Angle and Edge were left in the ring. Normally, it would be the other way around.

Just your average run-of-the-mill show. Just OK. But there's only 3 matches I'm interested in for JD. I'll post my JD predictions tomorrow night.
